...springtime....

...and the land needs attention...
...the top 2 fields are done, but the final one - the 'pony paddock', the one that gets the maximum hoof-fall needs some serious harrowing,  and this is the weekend to do it, because the grass is growing fast.

My neighbours land, Boob-tube Lisa's, was being farmed last night, through the night.  Tractors with their lights on working all night in the dark.  It reminded me that time - like land - can wait for no man.  I need to get out in the Landy at the weekend myself and see to my paddock, with Placebo playing to keep me in rhythm.

You'll see from the photos with Min modeling the deep hoof-shaped ruts, there's lots of hard divots from rampaging Trakehners - I will work this to the extreme, re-seed and make this a perfect surface for growing healthy grass.

As you can see Tom and Henry are very proud of their grazing.

.... Coco, get off my land!

...paddock pride...

it's a grassy business...

Spring is the time (or before if the weather is perfect for it) to do a bit of paddock maintenance.   A few hours spent in the Landrover with Placebo playing loudly, reaps great benefits during the growing season.

I try to do this as early as possible, much frowning from John is to be ignored at this time - what do geek-geniuses know about grass?

Chose a windy day so your seeds are caught in a gust and disperse finely and evenly.  Buy an extra bag of herb seeds to add to the grass mix.  The ground needs to be dry, but not too hard, otherwise your seed won't get properly buried by the harrow.

So first, I throw seed by hand - I have a spreader that goes on the back of 'Bob' (the sit on lawn tractor), but I do a much better job.

Then I harrow, concentric circles, going as close to the edges as I dare.  I do every inch, both ways - I harrow that land to within an inch of it's life, because rampaging Trakehners take their toll.

Tom & Henry keep a beady eye on all proceedings related to their land....

...spring silliness.....

....Tom & Henry finally out at grass, and how yours truly risked life and limb taking photos....
I was standing in the midst of the action & John took these from behind the safety of the fence!

Sit back with a cuppa, and enjoy the fierce speed of care free galloping - I was there, so you didn't have to be.

...We have LIFT OFF!

...spring is coming...

..the birds are singing, and the boys are happy x

The days are getting longer, and the grass is growing.  All change at WW.   I'm waiting for the land to dry out before I can keep Tom and Henry out 24/7, which is what they like.

As you can see from the photos, my pasture is going to need a lot of work to get looking and growing beautifully again.

There's still lots of mud about for rolling fun, and the horses are enjoying every moment.  Tom is losing his winter coat now, and though I keep repeating a cautionary note to him and say it still might snow, he's having none of it!

Henry doesn't care either way, as you'd expect.
